Boundary Breakthrough: Befriending Your Inner Critic Workshop

Introduction to the Boundary Breakthrough Worksho

Befriend Your Inner Critic, Transform Negative Self-Talk & Enjoy Peace of Mind

For years I thought my exhaustion and constant self-doubt were just part of being a responsible adult and a good mom. But as I began my healing journey—first to support my daughter and then myself—I realized that the relentless voice in my head wasn’t helping me strive, it was punishing me. Identifying that I had a deeply entrenched, hypercritical inner voice was one of the first and most powerful steps in my healing. Naming it helped me stop mistaking cruelty for motivation—and start learning how to speak to myself with compassion.

The inner critic is that persistent voice in your head that repeats old, limiting beliefs—often harsh, rarely helpful. Learning to recognize and heal this voice is one of the most powerful acts of self-care we can offer ourselves.

Art and creativity became a lifeline in this process. Through journaling, mixed media, and intuitive expression, I gave shape and voice to the part of me that had only ever criticized and shamed. Seeing my inner critic on the page helped me separate from it—and begin the work of listening, understanding, and eventually softening its grip.

But when you neglect to address your inner critic, you feel lonely, inhibited from intimate connection and nourishment within community.

  • You feel unworthy, believing that what you do and who you are isn’t enough.
  • You sabotage your own joy, unable to fully embrace activities or moments that should bring happiness, because your inner critic insists you haven’t earned it.
  • You struggle to accept love, praise, or rest without guilt.

Do you think any of the following?

  • “Unless I can immediately be good at something new, I won’t bother to even try..”
  • “I replay awkward conversations in my head, convinced I said something wrong or looked foolish.”
  • “I compare myself to everyone and always come up short. I just don’t measure up.”
  • “I want to create something, but as soon as I start, that voice tells me it’s stupid, ugly, or a waste of time.”

No one knows 100% for sure, it seems, who said it, but we’ve all heard that comparison is the thief of joy. And yet, many of us live in a near constant state of mental comparison—measuring ourselves against others and coming up short. These thoughts become so familiar we barely notice them, but they quietly erode our confidence and injure our creativity.

A mean inner dialogue keeps us stuck and frustrated. It silences our joy and dims our creative spark.

But we can change that!

Introducing: the Boundary Breakthrough Workshop

This 3.5-hour, live and in-person workshop is for anyone who struggles with a persistent inner critic—one that’s been tagging along for years, maybe decades. Often misunderstood, this voice formed to protect us from pain or failure, but over time its methods have become more harmful than helpful. Together, we’ll learn to gently tune into this inner dialogue with curiosity instead of judgment.

Change begins with awareness—with learning how to pause long enough not to react the way we always have. Instead of ignoring or attempting to silence our inner critic, we’ll create space to listen with compassion and set a kind, clear boundary. We’ll begin to discern which messages are outdated, untrue, or rooted in fear—and which ones are worth rewriting.

We’ll practice hearing what’s real, honoring our strengths, and celebrating our beautifully imperfect enoughness. This is the start of befriending your inner protector, building trust with yourself, and learning new ways to show up with honesty and heart.

This workshop offers a chance to gain personal insight, receive support, and be part of a bigger conversation about creativity, self-care, and mental well-being.

What you’ll achieve:

  • Understand the roots of your inner critic—where it comes from and what keeps it alive
  • Increased self-compassion—a shift from judgment to curiosity
  • Acceptance of the whole self, imperfections and all
  • A kinder inner voice—the “friend” who speaks to yourself with clarity, honesty, and grace
  • Freedom to play, create, and find more joy
